Bahrain's accession to the Hague Apostille Convention with effect from 31.12.2013
The Kingdom of Bahrain has joined the Hague Convention of 5 October 1961 Abolishing the Requirement of Legalisation for Foreign Public Documents. Therefore, the legalisation process will be replaced by the authentication of a public document by an “Apostille”. The effect of the “Hague Apostille” -just like the legalisation- is to certify the authenticity of the public document. Contrary to legalisation, apostilles may only be issued by a competent authority designated by the country from which the public document emanates. In Bahrain the apostille is issued by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Consequently, the German Embassy in Manama will not legalise Bahraini official documents after 31 December 2013.
